Be honest - does the skirt make my butt look big?

We are so thankful that she plays pretty nicely when we do things like this to her.

Why you do this to me?

Pugs are less understanding of the benefits of an annual vet visit.
But its especially important for our little Pants because.....we actually got her from a shelter and know very little about her medical history. She had lyme disease when we first got her, has some issue with her right eye that doesn't really seem to bother her, and also has an occassional limp in her hind legs (which may account for some of her more awkward sitting poses).

Good news is that she got got a clean bill of health (and we got a different kind of bill) and a treat from the doc.

Now that's what I call a dog carrier

This weekend has been pretty brutal temperature-wise in DC. Thank goodness Pants has secured a secondary mode of transportation once the heat becomes too much.

Pugnacious!

Well...you followers may be a small group, but very fiesty! After just two days of the caption contest, you're ready for a winner.

And I'm here to oblige.

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce.....MISS LISA N. queen of the Lily blog! Congrats on your excellent answer (Lily would be ALL OVER the ability to stay indoors at all times) and for your patience, which your fellow contestants were unable to exhibit.

Hope you enjoy soaking in all the glory.

Happy weekend, all!

CAPTION CONTEST!

Submit your best caption for the above photo - winner will be king of the Lily blog until I decide to run another contest. Don't doubt for a second the prestige of that honor.
Mine - "Well I'm certainly not going to get the door. And while you're up, I'll take a treat and a 2nd pillow."

Paraaaaaade time!

You say "parade" and Pants puts her game face on. We weren't sure how enthusastic she'd be since her attention usually wanes about 30 seconds into any activity...but I think the constant cheering and adoration made her the perfect float-attraction! Here she is posing before the route with her auntie and grandpa. Parade = success!

Don't you guys call her something ridiculous, like "Shirt?"

I know, right? What the heck - this isn't a picture of Lily. But with the abundance of followers I've acquired recently (holla, 4!), I can't keep the charade up any longer. You deserve to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (ok, maybe I should have written this on a day where I didn't spend the morning in a court room).

So here it is:

...We rarely call Lily Mae "Lily Mae." In fact, we rarely call her "Lily." She has a breadth of other nicknames...but by far, the most-oft-used is "Pants."

I know. Things always sound way more ridiculous the more you try to explain them....so I'll just say that there is very little explanation. I feel like animals and babies are nickname-prone anyway, so we quickly went from "Lily Mae" to more ridiculous things like "Liller-face" (due to her seal-like face*)...

(see the resemblance??)
*used mostly by her aunt

and then..."Liller-pants" and then just "Pants." That's really it.

and its hilarious

and we love it.

So, now you can feel awesome and like you're part of Pants' close circle of friends (I equate it with knowing the password at a speakeasy- that kind of cool).

Hope you have a nice, relaxing weekend!

Can't take the heat

I know, I know. I promised you a parade. Well, siiiiiiike. Just kidding. The truth is that I don't actually have any parade pictures - I'm waiting to get them from my sister (ahem), so in the meantime, I thought I'd get you up to speed by showing you exactly what happens when Lily meets summer heat for two hours. Its pretty much like this:

Excitement + heat + hours of time = Lily on the ground

She's very stubborn and will sit there pretty much until she is lifted to another location. The above is from the week after we got her, when my now husband and I were doing our engagement shoot in Georgetown. But it really could be pretty much any day following an over-10 minute walk. I think if there was a doggy treadmill that somehow doubled as a pooper scooper, Lils would be first in line at Sears.

Beach babe

We all celebrated the 4th with a wonderful weekend in the OBX. Lily's preferred method of celebrating was to crawl into an unsuspecting sunbather's beach chair and curl up for a snooze under a large beach umbrella. After two days of exhausting surf and snacking....she manned up to participate in our float for the Duck parade! Pics of that fun adventure coming soon!

I'd prefer to use hand sanitizer and call it a day

Lily has some allergy skin issues and we've been advised to bathe her at least once a week. This was our first attempt, and, well....things haven't really improved much.
